The 40-265 range consists of 6, 4 or 2 channel modules (this version is the 2-channel, 1.5Ω) that simulate the operation of a range of strain gauges making it ideal for testing strain gauge meters and a wide variety of industrial control systems. The range provides a simple way of replacing in house developed sensors with a low cost simulator having excellent performance. The 40-265 uses the same resistor bridge techniques that real life strain gauges are based on, ensuring accurate emulation under all conditions.

Strain Sensors
Conventional strain sensors are based on strain gage technology. In order to effectively measure the strain values in a force or load measurement application, a full, 4 element strain gage bridge circuit is utilized. The configuration is known as a Wheatstone Bridge Circuit. A Wheatstone Bridge has a very linear output in it’s midrange. That being considered +100% to -100% of range. Unfortunately, a Wheatstone Bridge becomes non-linear above the upper and lower extremes of range. Therefore, significant errors can result above the end points when attempting to take precision measurements. It is particularly important to take accurate measurements in some R&D or control applications. To avoid the mentioned error issues, PCB manufactures quartz piezoelectric strain sensors that output the same mV/microstrain sensitivity throughout the entire useful range. Thus, accuracy is improved and control requirements are enhanced that may occur at positive extremes of the measurement range. The models RHM240 and model 740B02 series sensors are the strain sensors for these applications.

Critical undercarriage structures and control surfaces may be monitored for fatigue damage induced by high-G maneuvers and high stress landings. These sensors are self-temperatures compensating, environmental resistant, have a high output, two active arms and are easily installed. Developed for the demanding requirements associated with tactical military aircraft, they are equally useful performing many of the more common strain measurements encountered in the material testing laboratory. Columbia's foil strain sensors are considered the standard for the industry.

Thanks to its three stacked measuring grids, the miniature SG rosette RF9 is only 5 mm in size. Its small diameter enables it to determine a biaxial stress state with unknown principal stress direction in the most confined space.
