Thyratrons and Accessories
Cargo scanning is a broad term which encompasses intelligent logistics, sniffer dogs and X-ray inspection. X-ray inspection systems offer rapid, non-invasive checking of manifests, detection of contraband, and when combined with other techniques, can be used to identify the presence of nuclear material. X-ray energies up to 10 MeV are required to penetrate fully loaded shipping containers and vehicles. These X-rays are generated through the acceleration of electrons along a linear accelerator into a target using megawatt energy microwave pulses produced by the RF sub-system.The skills for the design, manufacture and integration of specialised components for low-cost systems reside mainly in commercial companies. There is an emerging trend for linac system companies to demand higher performance from their integrated RF sub-systems.Currently, we intend not only to drive the innovation and development in this area, but also to offer integrated RF sub-systems to meet new requirements such as, portability, material discrimination and higher throughput.

Pulsed X-ray technology
Golden Engineering X-ray generators are based on Pulsed X-ray technology. Pulsed X-rays generate a high intensity X-ray burst (pulse) in a very short period of time (10 to 50 nanoseconds depending on the model). The output dose of each pulse is 3-6 mR measured 12 inches from the front of the X-ray generator. The operator varies the overall dose of each exposure by changing the pulse setting. The pulse rate varies from 10 pulses per second to 25 pulses per second depending on the model. The generators can fire up to 200 pulses before a four-minute rest period.

In general, X-ray diffraction measurements using a Cu X-ray source are known to have difficulty detecting trace crystalline phases because of increased background when measuring samples containing transition metals. The high energy resolution of the XSPA-400 ER supresses the fluorescent X-rays originating from the sample, thereby reducing background, enabling highly sensitive measurements of samples containing transition metals, such as iron and steel compounds and battery materials.Therefore, it achieves higher sensitivity measurements than conventional detectors.
